Smithson tries to protect against mindless eating

FIT Challenger Robb Smithson eats as healthy as you possibly can during the day, but finds it tough to prevent when it comes to night-time snacking.

"I am active, but meals are killer lida daidaihua new for me. Throughout the day I'm able to plan meals out in the morning and lunch, eat dinner after which after dinner, eat the whole night until I am going to bed. The hardest part for me personally isn't consuming food at night."

The 35-year-old Monroeville resident is an avid cyclist that has biked greater than 4,000 miles. His weight does not hamper him with regards to biking, although he is doing accept is as true would be easier if he was thinner.

He even participates in charity rides like Tour de Cure because he is pre-diabetic and wishes to do all he can not to let it advance.

But even with so much exercise, he can't keep up with his caloric intake.

"Weight loss happens to be a battle for me personally. I have been 410 pounds inside my highest point and 270 inside my lowest since high school," he explained.

Smithson works at Norwalk Concrete where he sits at a desk for 10 hours each day, which has resulted in some of his weight gain. Plus, he admits not to thinking about maintaining a healthy diet or watching calories as he starts to unwind for that evening.

Smithson is training with Hannah Riley from the Norwalk Rec, which works out well for him since he works so close to the Rec. Plus, he attends church regularly, and Riley loves to incorporate Bible verses into the training.

"I had sent a note to my trainer and said what my goals were," Smithson said. "I set my goal for 6 months at 60 pounds because Ten pounds per month is a reasonable amount of weight to lose. She emailed me back and said, 'I think by trying hard, you can lose greater than that."

Smithson seemed to be inspired by FIT Challenge winner Trina Crosland who lost greater than 90 pounds in 6 months.

"I don't mind shooting for the stars," he said.

One of the reasons he applied for body Challenge is for his three children, RJ, 5, Trindan, 3, and Mathilda, 1.

"I try to show my kids about being active and being more active than my parents were after i was a kid."

His parents participated in some activities, but his dad worked "all time then when he came home he was laying on the couch or in the pool," he explained.

Smithson may be the one that actually got his parents and his wife, Kendra, into cycling.

"When I first started engaging in biking, I got lots of other people associated with me. My mom and dad ride bike with me lida pink religiously now and that i got some people at work to ride."

Certainly one of his goals is to bike 100 miles.

"I have made up to 77 miles before and I actually want to hit that century ride."

He thinks slimming down will enable him to get to that goal.

"I can't wait," he said.
