Google's shocking statement

Probably the most significant education report of the year was Google announcing it found no correlation between your grades and test scores of its employees

and their success on the job, so the 7 days herbal slim company no more asks applicants about them. It was a shocking statement from a company that receives more than 2 million

applications annually.

Yet it seems as though Google simply discovered what superintendents around the country already know. In Gallup's survey in excess of 2,500 superintendents,

we discovered that only 5% strongly agree that a high GPA is the best predictor of success in college, and just 6% strongly agree that high SAT and ACT

scores are the best predictor. This doesn't suggest that people should throw out grades and testing entirely. However it does emphasize the need to greatly

reduce the load we placed on these measures. Certainly there is more to success in work and life than grades and test scores.

We're making matters worse by handing our most talented and engaged teachers manuals about how and just what they ought to teach. Yes, we want more rigorous

standards, but what we should have no need for is much more standardized rigor. Teachers aren't failing us; instead, the system they're made to work in is

failing us and them. And when you want to build engaged schools, we have to put ownership of the learning and teaching process back in the hands of teachers

and students. We have to empower them to do what they are innately created to do -- to thrive when someone cares about their future so when they have

opportunities to do what they do best each day. This kind of environment provides them ideas and for future years -- that provides students hope.

Caring and hope sound like things that are nice to possess, rather than things we need to have for achievement in everyday life. But, as Gallup studies have

shown, hope is really a stronger predictor of school success than GPA or SAT and ACT scores, and caring or emotional support elements are very important to

success in life after college. Not surprisingly, when Gallup polled Americans and asked them to take into account the best teacher they ever had, the most

typical word they used to describe them was "caring."

Gallup's recent study in excess of 30,000 college graduates shows how important emotional support is -- and just how few young people are experiencing it.

Emotional support includes three crucial elements: students feeling that they a professor who made them excited about learning, the professors in their alma

mater cared about them as a person, and they were built with a mentor who encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams. Graduates who strongly agreed

that they received emotional support during college doubled their likelihood of being engaged in their work as well as thriving within their overall well-

being. Yet as profoundly important as these emotional support elements are to long-term success in work and life, a mere 14% of college graduates strongly

agreed they received all three.

When it comes to being engaged at work and thriving inside your well-being after college, what you studied and where you visited college hardly matter. What

matters is how you probably slim forte did college -- using a meaningful internship or job, working on a long-term project, and being actively involved in

extracurricular activities -- and being emotionally supported by others during college.

What students need in their core is caring. When we can produce a system that enables caring to flourish and become a common experience that all students

receive, America will once more possess the best school system on the planet.
